The role you’ll contribute:
Provide direct observation of assigned patients who are at high risk for injury or elopement.The Direct Observer does not perform personal care, engage in conversations with the patient regarding his/her medical or psychiatric condition or plan of care. Nor does he/she offer suggestions.The Direct Observer will refer the patient and the family to the nurse to answer any questions regarding care. The Direct Observer summons the nurse assigned to address any identified patient needs, monitors the patient's verbalizations, and immediately informs the nurse if the patient expresses any idea or intention to hurt self/others or leave without physician's permission (elopement or Against Medical Advice [AMA]).He/She works under the direct clinical supervision of the Registered Nurse.

1.Ensures a secure and safe environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazards and observation of the patient.
2.Assist in maintaining an organized and clean environment for the patient.
3.Functions with an awareness and applies safety measures as identified within the institution regarding patients, self and others.Relates safety concerns and issues to registered nurse.
4.Remains calm in emergency situations; activates emergency response system when indicated by change in patient status.Follows established protocols and informs appropriate persons of emergency situations in a timely manner.
5.Consistent follows departmental dress code and maintains a professional image.
6.Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
•Mature judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within Florida Hospital guidelines and applicable regulations.
•Mental and emotional stability, demonstrating a courteous and calm approach to all contacts with patients, visitors, and health care team members.
•Ability to communicate verbally in English and in written form with persons of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective and professional manner.
•Personal qualities such as kindness, compassion, understanding, integrity, respect, sense of humor, discretion and confidentiality.
•Communicates effectively through use of talking and purposeful listening.
•Critical thinking / problem solving skills
•Teamwork, tact and conflict resolution
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
•Minimum of High school diplomaor equivalent
•Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
•Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, peers, and supervisors
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
•BLS - condition of employment
•Level II Criminal Background Check
•CPI – within 90 days of employment
