The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for supporting licensed practitioners in the provision of high-quality medical care to all patients. The LPN is chiefly accountable for efficient patient flow within the practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Obtains and accurately records reason for patient encounter, brief history and vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature (when appropriate).
• Prepares, organizes, and maintains exam/treatment rooms (i.e., appropriate supplies/equipment in each room) and cleans regularly.
• Prepares and assists patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Obtains and follows-up on test results as per policy/protocol under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
• Updates and maintains medication records and allergy history.
• Calls in prescriptions into pharmacy when authorized by a licensed practitioner.
• Documents patient communications and clinical treatments accurately and appropriately.
• Screens phone calls using protocols as directed by a licensed practitioner and conveys information on behalf of the licensed practitioner as directed.
• Wound picture documentation
• Performs body mass index (BMI) calculations and plot measurements on growth charts.
• Maintains inventory and updates lists of medical supplies and equipment in order to requisition supplies in a timely fashion.
• Reporting any changes in patients' condition to Registered Nurse
• Assist the RN to carry out visit expectancy to meet the patients need and follow MD orders
• Change dressings and bandages, obtaining wound measurements to ensuring patients are healing properly
• Records all CLIA-waived tests in logbook. (i.e., PT INR's).
• Educates patients in health maintenance, disease prevention and compliance with treatment plans as directed by a licensed practitioner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

Prior medical office experience.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma and accredited training for an LPN.

LICENSES:

LPN License issued by the New York State Education Department. BLS and ACLS certification preferred.

OTHER:

Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
