The role you’ll contribute:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the supervision and management of daily pharmacy operations and activities in the Pharmacy Department. The scope of the position includes assuring the delivery of quality patient care through implementation and maintenance of medication preparation and distribution services. Assures effective supervision, staff development, appropriate staffing and promoting positive employee and guest relations. Establishes and maintains effective communication lines with Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Staff, Materials Management, Information Systems, Finance and other outside entities within the facility; assuring integration of Pharmacy activities and objectives within the Pharmacy Department through development and implementation of policies & procedures. Assures well organized work flow, as well as maintains labor productivity and financial data within the Pharmacy Department.

Oversees quality improvement activities, produces and monitors Quality Improvement Activities within areas of oversight responsibility to continuously assess and improve services
Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in business and healthcare industry, while continually analyzing impact on department operations
Maintains optimization of staff ratios within the Pharmacy law for maximum productivity
Maintains reports regarding quality, productivity, and service utilization
Effectively meets nursing and physician needs in a timely and cost-effective manner
Integrates services into the organization’s primary functions
Demonstrates effective managerial judgment, fairness and consistency in managing employee relations
Incorporates recommendations or actions of subordinate personnel, when appropriate
Develops orientation, personnel training systems, positive role modeling, and recommendations for ongoing staff development (in services, CE, etc.)
Maximum utilization of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy buyer’s skills, thus promoting effective outcomes and rewarding challenges
Coaches and counsels staff members and administers annual performance evaluations
Recommends sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide services and flexes staffing in accordance with workload demands
Determines qualifications and competence of direct reports (pharmacy buyers and pharmacy technicians)
Maintains close working relationships with the Director of Pharmacy at AHSM and the Chief Nursing Officer at AHSOP
Effectively interacts with all hospital-based personnel, including customers & those servicing Pharmacy
Maintains review of current policy and procedure manuals
Develops new policies and procedures, as required, with changes in regulations and/or support patient care services
Recommends departmental goals and objectives based on the unique aspect of patient care
Responsible for meeting JC and other regulatory standards
Effectively monitors productivity of the Pharmacy Department
Monitors operating expenses and implements action plan, when necessary
Modifies resource utilization to changing reimbursement trends
Evaluates and implements opportunities for enhancing cost-effective delivery of services
Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the department or organization
Manage the data and information systems components of the pharmacy
Manage the purchasing and contract negotiations of all pharmaceuticals
Manage the inventory control systems
Participate with the Director of Pharmacy at AHSM and Chief Nursing Officer in the clinical and financial evaluation of formulary medications
Assures that the pharmacy systems are in compliance with State and Federal laws and guidelines, Regulatory Agency laws and guidelines, the hospital mission statement and the hospital's policies and procedures
Participates in the interviewing, hiring and disciplinary activities of the department
Manage the drug distribution and control functions
Participates in the Quality Assurance and Improvement activities of the department and the hospital
Interviews and participates in the selection, orientation, scheduling and assignment of unit personnel
Conduct performance evaluations of assigned personnel and contribute evaluation information on other personnel as appropriate
Provides for professional growth and development of Pharmacy employees through identification of training needs, sponsoring training programs, encouraging formal and continuing education and evaluation of same
Recommends necessary staffing, participates in development of department's operating and capital budgets, reviews periodic performance reports to budget, monitors changes and expenses and maintains expenditures within allocated funds
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Demonstrate ability to work in a collaborative environment and adapt easily to change
Demonstrate excellent time management skills
Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively
Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English
Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Pharmacy
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
PharmD degree
Three years hospital experience or completion of residency
Five years of experience in hospital management
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
State Pharmacy License
State Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) License within 60 days of hire
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages operations for all staff in pharmacy department
