JOB SUMMARY: The Patient Sitter performs under the supervision of the Registered Nurse on an assigned unit, Charge Nurse, Nurse Director and/or In-house Supervisor. Primary responsibility is to provide patient observation for patients at an increased risk for injury due to physical or cognitive conditions. May assist with limited activities of daily living as needed (i.e. assistance with feeding, hydration, toileting, etc). Maintains patient safety by accompanying the patient off the unit and maintaining direct contact with the patient in areas where other staff are not in constant attendance (i.e. Radiology).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains patient safety by providing direct observation and companionship.
Provides sufficient protection and physical support to patients while in bed or chair, toileting, ambulating, or during transportation to other departments.
Demonstrates consistent ability to recognize and provide for patient comfort and safety needs according to plan of care and established procedures.
Demonstrates consistent ability to provide safe patient positioning and ambulatory needs based on the assessment of the RN.
Prepares the patient and environment for meals according to plan of care, recognizing the patient's physical limitations; verifies diet sheet to ensure accuracy with the physician order.
Knowledge and implementation of standardized PPE regarding the prevention / transmission of infectious disease / isolation processes.
Maintains patient safety by accompanying the patient off the unit and maintaining direct contact with the patient in areas where other staff are not in constant attendance (i.e. Radiology).
Reports changes in patient status or personal care needs to licensed or nursing assistant staff in a timely manner.
Communicates all patient or visitor issues or incidents to licensed staff for documentation and follow-up.
Demonstrates the correct emergency response according to policy and procedure.
Enhances growth and development through participation in relevant educational programs, current literature, in-services and meetings.
Flexibility in schedule in order to meet the needs of the patients, community and staff.
Participates in performance improvement to improve patient outcomes.
Maintains annual education requirements prior to due date
