The Licensed Practical Nurse provides safe, timely and individualized nursing care to patients in the Ambulatory Care setting. The incumbent will support medical surgical units, psychiatric units, critical care units, hospice units and community living center neighborhoods within the Durham Medical Center inpatient and ambulatory care setting. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. Performs complex practical nursing skills with precision and efficiency, consistent with Medical Center policy and procedure and within legal and ethical responsibilities of his/her licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide safe and individualized nursing care to patients with difficult, complex and rapidly changing physiological and/or emotional needs. Assists with patient education and patient groups regarding medications and disease management. Performs support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment and monitoring the patient's condition before, during and following the procedure. Observes, identifies and responds to the patient's need for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education. Participates in the orientation, education and training of less experienced LPNs and shares knowledge, experience, and skills with co-workers in the form of structured in-services and 1:1 interaction. Recognizes and appropriately responds to breakage/malfunctions or loss of equipment, supply deficiencies and fire, safety or environmental hazards. Reviews view alerts throughout the day and completes by close of business daily. Documents information timely regarding patient's condition, progress and care, while adhering to current policies and procedures. Accurately documents prescribed medications/treatments according to established policies and procedures. Work Schedule: 7:45am - 4:30pm Monday-Friday Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
