Job Summary:
The Principle Interface Developer is responsible for requirements analysis, testing, implementation, documentation, maintenance, and overall support for health information interfaces for Vanderbilt's Clinical systems. The Principle Interface Developer works closely with ancillary product owners, vendors, and technical staff to design, build, test, install, and monitor Intersystems interfaces between VUMC's eStar (Epic) and internally & externally interfaced systems. (Note: This role can be a 100% REMOTE position)
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Provide superior customer service to internal and external customers
- Lead projects and report on status as requested
- Analyze complex data sets (HL7 2.x, XML messaging formats such as C-CDA)
- Interact with users and department representatives to design detailed message flows & integration points
- Collaborate with Business Analysis resources to create detailed specifications for health information interfaces
- Build & Configure Intersystems HealthConnect interfaces
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance resources to test interface changes or new interfaces prior to promotion to production
- Engage with local technical resources and vendors to resolve connectivity, mapping, or data processing errors
- Provide on-call and after-hours support for Intersystems interfaces
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 10 years of healthcare integration experience
- Current training and experience in Intersystems integration tools at scale
- 5 to 10 years of development experience preferred
- Experience working in an Epic environment and experience with Cerner Lab preferred
- Expert knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, especially HL7 2.x
- Expert knowledge of communications protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, FTP, SFTP)
- Ability to take full ownership of assigned tasks and work independently to deliver quality results on-time
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to superior time management skills, are essential
- Additional experience with commercial healthcare integration engines and tools such as CorePoint, Rhapsody, Mirth, or Cloverleaf preferred
- Familiarity with healthcare semantic standards (e.g. LOINC, SNOMED, etc.) preferred
- Experience with FHIR preferred
This is a principal level position requiring current skill sets and the ability to be immediately productive in a complex and fast-pace environment
